I'm currently making a film with the North Devon Marine Project making which showcases our work and plans as a conservation initiative.
THE WRITE UP
The Devon Marine Project (NDMP) is a non-profit initiative ushering in a new era of sustainable sailing. The teams combined expertise in off-grid power systems and marine surveillance has enabled us to create a trace free offshore research hub aboard a high-performance sailing yacht Nazca.
Nazca harnesses abundant renewable resources available while sailing; solar and wind power. And regenerates them into electricity. Equipped with ROVs, videography gear, and benthic and pelagic sampling systems we collect live data about the marine environment as we move through.
We take intentional passages. Through collaboration with conservation initiatives (namely the Ocean Conservation Trust and The Green Blue) we direct our sail to areas of conservation interest. Monitoring habitat changes, disruptions and regeneration progress below us. The data we collect is low impact, non-invasive and trace-free.
And Nazca, to the best of our knowledge is the first sailing vessel of her kind. Going forward our aim to foster a new generation of sustainable sailors. We're committed to making sustainable seamanship as accessible to young people as possible. Inviting kids aboard and offering the opportunity to learn about topics ranging from solar panels to micro-plastic pollution, while experiencing the wonders of the marine environment and sailing first hand.
By fostering a deep connection and understanding between young minds, the marine environment, and most importantly the positive potential within sailing: we aim to cultivate a new generation of sailors dedicated to a symbiotic relationship with the seas
